The company has gradually developed a two-tier R&D system consisting of the Sinochem International Science and Technology Innovation Center and R&D centers of business divisions. In addition, we have implemented and reinforced the "Stage-Gate" R&D project management system, and, according to the marketing characteristics of different industries and projects, established a complementary project-based accounting mechanism and relevant incentive plans.
Sinochem International Science and Technology Innovation Center
The Sinochem International Science and Technology Innovation Center was officially put into operation in the spring of 2017, aiming to create the "think tank" for China's fine chemicals industry, and specializing in research on new chemicals, pesticide APIs and products, chemicals for electronics, and automotive materials and chemicals. We are now an industry leader in research of pesticide APIs and rubber chemicals.
Advanced facilities and a small yet highly-trained R&D team have laid a solid foundation for the Center to build a first-class fine chemistry R&D platform. Focusing on corporate strategy-centered technological R&D, the Center currently carries out 63 research projects of different types.
Shenyang Sinochem Agrochemicals R&D Co., Ltd. ("Shenyang R&D"), a subsidiary of Sinochem International, is a national pesticide research and development platform. It has registered and marketed 9 innovative pesticides with independent intellectual property rights, playing a crucial role in Sinochem's agrochemical research and development.
Shenyang R&D, formerly known as the Institute of Pesticides of Shenyang Chemicals Research Center, is the only pesticide research and development organization in China that integrates design and synthetization of new chemical compounds, development of production processes, processing of pesticide formulations, bioactivity determination and safety assessment. It is also the largest institute specializing in pesticides in China. In 2016, the two FAO standards for new Chinese pesticides pyraoxystrobin API and deflocculant, which were formulated by Shenyang R&D, passed expert review, setting a precedent for future domestic formulation of international standards on pesticides.
Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Co., Ltd. ("Yangnong Chemical"), affiliated with Sinochem International, adheres to a technological innovation strategy that emphasizes the combination of innovative and generic pesticides. With strong technical R&D strength and technical research platforms such as the Working Group on Pyrethroid Pesticides under the National Technical Committee of Pesticide Standardization, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Pesticide Cleaner Production Technology, Jiangsu Research Center of Pyrethroid Pesticide Engineering Technology, and Jiangsu Post-doctoral Innovation Practice Base, Yangnong Chemical has made breakthroughs in multiple key pyrethrin technologies and independently developed 63 new products - of which 4 were new innovative products, 11 were selected as national key new products; 1 won the China Industrial Award, 12 were granted provincial-level or above Science and Technology Progress Award, and 1 won the Jiangsu Enterprise Technology Innovation Award. Yangnong Chemical has led or participated in the formulation of 6 national standards and 4 industry standards, and has undertaken 20 provincial-level or above scientific and technological projects. In addition, it has obtained 91 patents, including 19 foreign patents, and has applied for 207 domestic invention patents, including 8 PCT applications.
Yangnong Group, affiliated with Sinochem International, is a national key high-tech enterprise, a national technological innovation demonstration enterprise, and a technological innovation demonstration enterprise in China's petroleum and chemical industries. It has established scientific research platforms including a national enterprise technology center, a national demonstration academician & expert workstation, a national post-doctoral research workstation, a Jiangsu enterprise academician workstation and a Jiangsu engineering technology research center. It also features a specialized chemical research laboratory, an industrial catalysis research laboratory, a high-performance materials research laboratory, a safety and environmental research laboratory, an analysis and testing center, and an engineering technology research center which provide an integrated production, research and marketing capabilities.
Polymer Additives R&D
Sennics Co., Ltd. affiliated with Sinochem International has established a market-oriented innovative R&D model featuring "industry-university-research" cooperation, and developed a R&D system led by the Shanghai R&D center and supported by technology centers of subsidiaries, which partners with well-known domestic and foreign universities and focuses on the ultimate goal of industrializing scientific and technological achievements. The company has more than 200 professional technicians, covering new product research and development, process improvement, applied research, and science and technology management.
Sennics R&D Center is located in the Zhangjiang High-tech Park, Shanghai, covering an area of 1,700 square meters. It is equipped with a wide variety of laboratories, such as synthetic research, analytical research, and applied research, and has teams of product research, test analysis and applied research. Its subsidiaries have set up technical centers and pilot workshops.
New Energy R&D
As a research and development platform for Sinochem International in the new energy industry, Sinochem International New Energy Research Institute aims to build a world-class research and development base for lithium-ion batteries and their core materials, and become a technology and product incubator and a talent training base for lithium batteries and key materials in China, as well as an internationally competitive high-tech industry research and development platform.
Recently, the research institute has developed technologies and products with independent intellectual property rights, notably high nickel ternary cathode materials, silicon carbon anode materials, new electrolytes and additives, and high energy density core systems for power lithium ion batteries. Moreover, it will build a key material and full battery testing center and a full battery demonstration production line, striving to achieve the internationally advanced level of product performance.
